The Michigan State University Center for Police Executive Development located within the School of Criminal Justice offers leadership development programs specifically designed to address the limited number of high quality development experiences available for police supervisors, managers, administrators, and executives.

  • The Command Officer Development Certificate Program consists of three courses - Accountability, Communication, and Leadership - offered via a blend of classroom and distance delivery of course work.
  • The Police Executive Development Series is a three-day classroom seminar offered each fall. Police executives are exposed to leadership issues such as strategic thinking, managing change, and innovative problem solving in the context of timely current issues. The Fall 2008 topic is Succession Planning - Building Leaders from Within.
  • The Michigan State University School of Staff and Command is a 400-hour problem-based course open to all supervisory level personnel. The School uses a blend of classroom facilitated learning and cutting edge distance learning technologies.
