Campus Crime Prevention


Course Description: The goal of this three day training is to provide the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to lead crime prevention services for your campus.

  • Who Should Attend: This class is intended for all campus law enforcement and security officers, and their supervisors.
  • Program:
    • Describe the benefits of crime prevention programs to the campus security professional and all members of the campus community.
    • Analyze the differences between reacting to crimes and seeking to prevent them from occurring.
    • Analyze the characteristics of the target audience.
    • Describe successful crime prevention initiatives in use throughout the county.
    • Explain the role of campus law enforcement within the community, state, and national emergency response system.
  • Instructors:

    Brian Fountain is a 20 year veteran of the Detroit Police Department. He is currently an instructor at eh Detroit Metropolitan Police Academy where he teaches crime prevention and crime scene investigation classes. Brian has presented for various associations and workshops around the state.

    Michael E. Thompson has served in various capacities over the last 30 years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Masters if Arts in Education Administration from Michigan State University. He has been designated a Certified Protection Professional by the American Society for Industrial Security. He serves as adjunct faculty at Michigan State University, School of Criminal Justice, Security Education Program, and Lansing Community College Criminal Justice and Law Center. He is considered an expert in school security issues and has testified before the Michigan Senate and House of Representatives Education Committees and is the only private sector member of the Michigan Safe School Initiative Work Group that is developing security related "best practices" for implementation in Michigan schools.
