Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Where do you get the funding for the 2 ½ day Campus Crime Prevention workshop?

A. The Campus Crime Prevention workshop is part of a grant project awarded to the RCPI National Network (administered by the Missouri RCPI at Missouri Western State University) by the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The project is designed to deliver BJA funded training curricula across the nation in an efficient; cost-effective manner.

Q. What is the cost to attend the Campus Crime Prevention workshop?

A. All training and technical assistance delivered via this BJA project is available at NO-COST FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT PARTICIPANTS.

Q. What is included at no cost?

A. All training materials, including a 300-page participant manual and assorted NCPC crime prevention resources and break refreshments are at no cost to the participant.

Q. Does the grant cover cost for participant lodging and meals?

A. No. Meals, travel related expenses and lodging are the responsibility of the participant.

Q. Who are the Instructors?

A. A cadre of instructors representing college and campus public safety from around the country as well as instructors well versed in various aspects of crime prevention attended a comprehensive train-the-trainer workshop in January 2009. Two instructors from that cadre will be provided free of charge to the hosting institution to deliver your 2 1/2 day workshop. Where possible one of those instructors will be from the state where the workshop is being held.

Host a Class

Would you like to co-host a 2 ½ day Campus Crime Prevention Workshop?

If you are a college or university or a member of the RCPI National Network and would like to co-host a 2 ½ day Campus Crime Prevention workshop in your area, contact Audrey Martini at the Michigan RCPI, martini@msu.edu, or 1-800-892-9051. Selection criteria for hosting this training include a reasonable ability to attract 35-40 participants, primarily campus law enforcement and security officers/supervisors. The classroom should be large enough for round tables or some arrangement that allows group work. There should also be capability for an LCD projector and screen. Lunch opportunities should be close by the classroom/facility.

Colleges and universities are encouraged to partner with the regional RCPI (see http://rcpinetwork.uis.edu for a list of RCPIs) if available. The co-hosting college or university and RCPI will be asked to assist in marketing the workshop. MI RCPI will post information on the RCPI National Network website's calendar of trainings and on the BJA website's training calendar. If the training is co-hosted with a regional RCPI, the RCPI may choose to register participants; if not, the MI RCPI will take registrations, prepare the class list, certificates, etc.

MI RCPI will request CEU credits for the course and record successfully completed participant names and information. If you would like POST credit in your state, one of the co-hosting agencies will be responsible for submitting information for approval. MI-RCPI will provide whatever information is needed to assist in that process, and provide a list of successfully completed participants upon completion of the workshop.

The cost of break refreshments will be reimbursed at a specific rate per person. We do ask that the co-hosting agency facilitate logistics with the caterer by providing names and contact information. Once the dates and location have been determined by the co-host(s), the MI-RCPI will identify the classroom instructor team and make all arrangements and pay associated expenses for getting the two instructors to the training.

A co-hosting agency will need to forward a list of registrants - insuring the minimum number required to conduct the class three weeks prior to the scheduled training date. The Michigan RCPI will then ship participant manuals, handouts, sign-in sheets, etc. to arrive well in advance of the training.
