
Human Trafficking: Awareness
Course Description: To orient law enforcement, victim service providers, prosecutors, NGO'S and community to the issues surrounding human trafficking in Michigan and the United States. To promote the necessity of a coordinated response from police, prosecution, community, and service providers.

- Cost: The cost of attendance, training materials, and break refreshments are provided for the participant through a grant from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Assistance. Seats are limited, therefore, registration is required.
- Hours: 8:00am - 4:00pm
- Who Should Attend: Law enforcement patrol, investigation, supervision and management, prosecution and victim service providers.
- Program:
- Legal overview of the national perspective and the Trafficking Victims Protection Act as a victim centered law
- Michigan's new law on Human Trafficking
- Practical issues in identifying and preparing prosecution from perspective of law enforcement
- The necessary role of Federal Enforcement, including FBI, ICE, and services available to victims through the Federal Government
- Impact of trauma, communication barriers, trust issues, legal services, medical and cultural considerations
- Victim service provider's role and availability
- Preparing a coordinated community response through partnerships
