
Law Enforcement/Mental Health Services: A Community Based Response
Course Description: The intent of this workshop is to train teams of law enforcement and mental health professionals re: a community based response to those with mental disorders, based on strategies built on community partnerships.

- Cost: These workshops are presented at no cost to the participant. Handouts will also be provided at no cost.
- Hours: Registration begins at 8:00 am. Class; 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Lunch and break refreshments will be served at no cost.
- Who Should Attend: Law Enforcement Officials as well as mental health professionals.
- Program:
- Teach law enforcement officers to address situations involving those with mental and how to respond safely and effectively.
- Define and identify behaviors associated with mental illness and developmental disability.
- Teach personnel how to respond to situations involving those with mental disorders.
- Know verbal diffusion and personal awareness skills to manage these encounters safely.
- Understand legal authority to act and respective departmental policies.
- Understand community coordinated response to those with mental disorders.
- Meet and have a dialogue with "consumers" who have had a mental illness.
- Instructor: Kenneth L. Wolf, Ph.D. is a fully licensed Michigan clinical psychologist. Marilyn Knight, M.S.W. is the President/ CEO of the Incident Management Team, and International crisis management, security, and violence prevention consulting company.
